We recently got back from an epic week in Hawaii where we took a biiiiit more than a long weekend away. Below a few tips & trips for navigating the island with littles.
STAY: We suggest an airbnb for exploring the island but if you want a blow out destination that’s kid friendly it’s hard to beat the Four Seasons Hualalai for it’s beach, pool, spa, shopping, eating, swimming & fun. Also, the Mauna Kea further north has the best beach and quietest bay for little one’s snorkeling and swimming.
SHOP: Look no further than Santa Monica based Maris Collective’s hand curated shops at the Four Seasons Hualalai! Pick up luxury items at Seaside Luxe, more contemporary brands at Seaside Beach and shop kids and men’s too.
EAT: Book a babysitter and a reservation at Ulu at the Four Seasons for a romantic evening. For kids hop in the car and find a Loko Wrap location for healthy smoothies and wraps (gluten free, vegan options available). Also, the kids will love Hawaii’s well known shaved ice. We loved the truck that came to Kua Beach.
SEE: This trip we drove south to
which was a “place of refuge” for defeated warriors or those fleeing after breaking the law. There is a reconstructed fishing village and ancient artifacts here plus a huge lava field for discovering tide pools. It is next door to two great snorkeling spots and in the center of the Kona Coffee belt so a great stop on a longer tour of the Big Island.
KIDS: Kids will love the beautiful sea life on this island. We saw turtles, dolphins and even a Hawaiian Monk Seal.
PACK: the island is casual except for dinner at the Four Seasons. Grab as many great bathing suit as you can for hopping in and out of the ocean all day. Always wear a great hat and fun cover up. We found that these NATIVE shoes worked great for our boys in almost every scenario on the island. A few outfit grabs below and some brand links to shop.
